Anomabo Fisheries College set for face-lift-Veep

In a poignant reflection, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, the Vice President recalled her recent visit to the Anomabo Fisheries College with His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama.

The visit, she noted, was a moment for deep reflection as it revealed the neglect the college has endured over the past eight years.

Once nearing completion, the facility has since been abandoned, leading to the severe deterioration of its infrastructure.

The establishment of the Anomabo Fisheries College was a critical initiative aimed at empowering fishing communities along Ghana’s coastal regions.

Designed to provide research-driven solutions for enhancing the fishing and aquaculture industries, the college was expected to play a pivotal role in the sustainable development of Ghana’s fisheries sector.

Prof. Opoku Agyemang highlighted that the completion of the college would align with the Blue Ocean Economy flagship initiative outlined in the 2024 manifesto.

This initiative seeks to unlock the full economic potential of Ghana’s fisheries sector, ensuring its growth and sustainability for future generations.

Accompanied by Hon. Emelia Arthur, the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Prof. Opoku Agyemang reaffirmed their commitment to renovating the college and completing its construction.

This pledge, she emphasized, is not only vital to the nation’s development goals but also honors the legacy of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

President Mills was instrumental in the design and establishment of the college in 2008, envisioning it as a cornerstone of progress for Ghana’s coastal communities.

Through these efforts, the leadership hopes to ensure that the Anomabo Fisheries College fulfills its intended purpose, contributing to the growth of the fisheries industry and benefiting the communities it was meant to serve.
