STOP THE APOLOGIES: Hon. Mrs. Linda Ocloo Never Insulted Northerners

Hon. Mrs. Linda Ocloo did not insult Northerners. She spoke an uncomfortable national truth: Ghana’s development remains uneven.

Transfers from Accra are often perceived as punitive not because the North lacks dignity or value, but because infrastructure, healthcare, educational opportunities, jobs, and social amenities remain heavily concentrated in Accra and a few southern cities. That is not hate speech. That is a developmental reality many Ghanaians quietly acknowledge.

Instead of fueling outrage and endless apologies, we should organize communicators and bloggers to redirect public attention toward the real issue national reforms and balanced development. The positive substance in her statement, if properly amplified, is far greater than the negative impression currently dominating public discourse.

The real solution is not emotional condemnation, but massive investment in Northern Ghana and deprived regions so that transfers anywhere in Ghana become attractive, dignified, and professionally rewarding.

We must stop confusing uncomfortable truth-telling with regional bigotry. A nation cannot solve a problem it refuses to openly discuss. After all, city lights naturally shine brighter than rural and underdeveloped areas and that is precisely why development must be expanded, not the truth suppressed.
