APEDWA KONTIHENE AND NKOSUOHENE PREPARE GHC500,000 DEFAMATION SUIT AGAINST NII AKO ODOTEYE AND GERTRUDE ODOTEYE

The Kontihene of Apedwa, Baffour Antwi Kokoroko, and the Nkosuohene, Odehyie Ansah Akomeah, are set to initiate legal proceedings against Nii Ako Odoteye and his daughter, Gertrude Odoteye. The traditional leaders are seeking GHC500,000 in damages following what they describe as “vicious and unfounded” defamatory claims shared on social media.

The Social Media Spark

The looming legal battle stems from a series of social media posts allegedly authored by Gertrude Odoteye. In these posts, she reportedly displayed photographs of the two traditional leaders, accusing them of masterminding attacks on Gadangme residents within Akyem lands.
The allegations have circulated widely across various Gadangme-focused social media platforms and community groups. This has reportedly sparked a wave of hostility toward the chiefs, who maintain that they are being unfairly characterized as threats to the Gadangme people.

Lack of Evidence

Spokespersons for the Apedwa Kontihene and Odehyie Ansah Akomeah assert that these claims are entirely fabricated. They contend that Gertrude Odoteye has failed to provide any evidence to substantiate her accusations of violence or incitement, leaving them with no choice but to seek legal redress.

Impending Legal Action

In a move to clear their names, the chiefs are finalizing a “character assassination” lawsuit. The intended GHC500,000 suit aims to address the widespread defamation and the potential danger these claims have placed upon their persons and their traditional offices.
“A leader’s reputation is his most sacred asset,” a source close to the palace stated. “To accuse traditional authorities of tribal incitement without proof is not just libelous; it is a threat to the peace of the region.”
The legal team for the chiefs confirmed that Nii Ako Odoteye and Gertrude Odoteye are expected to be served with the formal summons in the coming days once the filing process is complete.
