Akyems Are Peaceful and Welcoming; We Do Not Condone Violence – Odehyie Ansah Akomeah

Amid rising tensions and misleading narratives circulating on social media, Odehyie Ansah Akomeah has issued a strong call for calm, unity, and responsible communication, firmly debunking rumors of a tribal conflict between the Akyem and Ga-Adangbe peoples.

Speaking in response to a viral video and escalating online rhetoric, Odehyie Akomeah clarified that the matter in question is a localized legal and traditional dispute, not an ethnic confrontation.

“Akyem is an entire tribe,” he stated. “It is dangerous and irresponsible to associate a whole ethnic group with a specific issue occurring in Okanta. Such narratives create unnecessary fear and tribal tension.”

He emphasized that the community of Otwe remains peaceful, law-abiding, and should not be drawn into the commotion currently unfolding elsewhere.

“Otwe is calm and peaceful. The video circulating on social media has nothing to do with our community, and any attempt to link it to us is false and misleading.”

Chieftaincy Dispute and the Rule of Law

Odehyie Akomeah acknowledged the existence of an ongoing chieftaincy dispute in Otwe, but stressed that all concerned parties are following due process. The matter is currently before the Kyebi Traditional Court, with proceedings adjourned to January 2026.

Regarding the durbar announced for this Saturday, he explained that his side has lawfully obtained a court injunction to prevent the event.

“We are law-abiding people, which is why we sought an injunction. The individuals attempting to organize this durbar are not recognized royals, and using the occasion for an ‘outdooring’ would amount to a clear breach of court processes.”

He added that despite provocation, his side deliberately chose peace and legality over chaos.

“We could have chosen disorder, but we firmly believe in allowing the rule of law to prevail.”

This Is About Individuals, Not Tribes

Odehyie Akomeah clarified that the disagreement does not involve tribes, but rather the actions of specific individuals, naming Nii Ako Odoteye and his daughter(Gertrude Odoteye), whom he accused of using social media to falsely frame a personal or localized issue as a tribal conflict.

“There is absolutely no problem between the Ga-Adangbe and the Akyem people. This is not a tribal war. It is a matter of legal and traditional procedure.”

Call for Responsibility and Unity

He concluded with a call for restraint, responsible use of social media, and respect for Ghana’s traditional and legal institutions.

“Let us not mix up issues or incite unnecessary tension. This matter will be resolved through the courts and established traditional protocols—not through misinformation or tribal agitation.
