WE ARE ENDING FAMILY AND FRIENDS GOVERNMENT .” Adwoa Sarfo
One of the Kennedy Agyapong’s 12 babies mothers, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo’s warning against family-and-friends politics was not accidental or vague. She argued clearly that the NPP lost power because competence was sacrificed on the altar of familial ties and personal loyalty.
In doing so, she implicitly pointed to a culture that has long undermined the party and
indicted Kennedy Agyapong as a central embodiment of that culture. If anyone represents “family and friends” politics in the NPP, it is Kennedy Agyapong himself. This is not conjecture. He has previously made what amounts to a confession against himself, publicly posturing as a chief patron of cronyism.
I am therefore not surprised by the avalanche of distortions now coming from his camp as damage control. The Agyapong camp has become a mountain of mud everything that goes in or comes out is stained with falsehood. No amount of rebranding or political laundering can cleanse that record of him as principal cronyer.
Kennedy Agyapong is not principle at all, he convicted himself when he publicly boasted that he personally handpicked chief executives and ministerial appointees from Ashanti and Central Regions his political and ethnic strongholds at his own private residence. He cited names such as Hawa Koomson, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, as example, while conspicuously excluding even sitting party figures like Asenso-Boakye.
His admission perfectly fits the long-standing accusation against him: entrenched patronage politics designed to benefit his inner circle dealings and business allies. A practice that enriched his “Friends of Benefits Accounts” to milk his fleets of Companies with government contracts.
He has never denied this practice, which therefore supports Hon Sarah Adwoa Sarfo’s point of correction. Instead, he defends it by claiming he rewards people he “knows and trusts,” conveniently redefining loyalty as competence. That, in its purest form, is cronyism.
The irony is striking. The NPP rose to power in 2016 on the slogan “We are ending family and friends government.” Today, that same slogan has boomeranged used against senior figures like Kennedy Agyapong who openly practice what the party once condemned. And later turned round to shift blames on Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and accused same of bad governance.
Adwoa Safo did not attack Kennedy Agyapong with insults. She exposed him as “MEAN POLITICIAN” and the system with principle. And on that score, her points and arguments stand undeniably.
