The National Youth Authority (NYA) and Agencies under the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment joined members of the Parliamentary Defense and Interior Committee to visit victims of the recent stampede that occurred at the El-Wak Sports Stadium during a military recruitment screening exercise. The purpose of the visit was to check on the condition of the victims and to express solidarity and support on behalf of the government.
During the visit, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Osman Ayariga, Esq., described the incident as unfortunate and expressed his heartfelt wishes for the victims’ speedy recovery.
He emphasized that the Ministry is deeply concerned because the victims fall within the youth demographic, which is the Ministry’s primary focus. Mr. Ayariga Esq. further assured the public that the Ministry and its agencies remain committed to empowering young people and creating an enabling environment for sustainable employment opportunities. He also urged all stakeholders to speak with one voice in supporting and encouraging the victims, emphasizing the need to set aside political differences in such matters.
The Member of Parliament for Builsa North and Chairperson of the Defense and Interior Committee, Hon. James Agalga, noted that their visit was meant to assure the victims that Parliament cares deeply about their wellbeing. He commended them for their patriotism and their desire to serve the nation.
The delegation was led on the hospital tour by Col. Dr. Dellah Adzigbli, Head of the Trauma and Surgical Emergency Unit at the 37 Military Hospital. Dr. Adzigbli briefed the team on the victims’ conditions, reporting significant improvement among the injured and assuring that some of them would be discharged soon.
