Two seasoned sports media experts, Dr. Austin Lugutterah and Mr. Sellas Odoi, will lead a one-day workshop aimed at equipping Ghanaian volleyball journalists with advanced reporting skills tailored to the local context.
The training session, organized by the Ghana Volleyball Association in collaboration with media stakeholders, is scheduled for Friday at the Media Centre of the Accra Stadium. It seeks to enhance the quality of volleyball coverage in Ghana, addressing challenges such as accurate terminology, ethical reporting, and engaging storytelling in a sport that is gaining traction nationally.
Dr. Lugutterah, a renowned sports journalism lecturer and former editor with extensive experience in African athletics coverage, will focus on foundational principles of journalism in Ghana, including fact-checking, source verification, and adherence to the Ghana Journalists Association’s code of ethics. Mr. Odoi, a veteran broadcaster and volleyball commentator known for his work with local radio stations, will delve into sport-specific techniques, such as live match reporting, player interviews, and digital media integration to boost audience engagement.
“Volleyball is on the rise in Ghana, with recent successes in regional tournaments, but our media coverage needs to match that momentum,” said a spokesperson for the Ghana Volleyball Association. “This workshop will empower journalists to tell compelling stories that promote the sport and inform the public accurately.”
The event is open to accredited journalists covering volleyball or general sports, with registration closing Thursday evening. Participants will receive certificates upon completion, and lunch will be provided.
The workshop kicks off at 9:00 AM and is expected to conclude by 4:00 PM, fostering networking opportunities among media professionals and volleyball officials. For inquiries, contact the Ghana Volleyball Association at info@ghanavolleyball.org.
