Ghana’s government has announced a significant increase in the producer price of cocoa, effective October 3, 2025. The new price stands at GH₵3,625 per bag, equivalent to GH₵58,000 per tonne, representing a 12.27% rise from the previous price announced in August. This upward adjustment translates to approximately GH₵400 more per bag for cocoa farmers.
The increased price is expected to boost the income of cocoa farmers, potentially improving their livelihoods and encouraging sustainable agricultural practices. To further support cocoa production, the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) will intensify the supply of critical farming inputs, including free cocoa fertilizers, both liquid and granular, to enhance crop yields. Additionally, COCOBOD will provide free insecticides to protect crops from pests and diseases, as well as free spraying machines to improve efficiency in farming practices. Free fungicides will also be supplied to prevent fungal diseases that can damage crops, and free flower inducers will be provided to enhance cocoa production.
The margins, fees, and rates for other stakeholders, including COCOBOD, will remain unchanged despite the price increase for farmers. COCOBOD remains committed to implementing a new Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for children of cocoa farmers, slated to begin in the 2026/27 academic year. This initiative aims to support the education and development of cocoa farming families.
The government’s decision to increase the producer price of cocoa reflects its commitment to supporting the welfare of cocoa farmers and promoting a sustainable cocoa industry. By providing better prices and essential farming inputs, the government hopes to incentivize farmers to maintain and expand their cocoa production, ultimately contributing to the country’s economic growth.
