The NDC government has reiterated it’s commitment to revitalizing Appiate, a community left scarred by a calamitous mining explosives disaster in 2022, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has assured residents that the third phase of the redevelopment project is set to commence.
During a recent visit to the area, Hon. Buah underscored the government’s inflexible dedication to completing the reconstruction efforts, highlighting that a substantial GHS112 million had been mobilized through the Appiate Support Fund.
He indicated that, with a significant portion of the funds, approximately GHS60 million, having been judiciously allocated to Phases I and II of the project, he revealed that the remaining GHS52 million would be channeled towards the third phase, pending the resolution of land tenure issues with local chiefs.
“Upon assuming office, President Mahama entrusted me with a categorical imperative – to ensure the expeditious completion of all outstanding projects in Appiate,” Hon. Buah declared.
“The Appiate Support Fund has received an impressive influx of donations, totaling GHS112 million. Having prudently expended GHS60 million on Phases I and II, we are now poised to embark on the third phase, contingent upon the amicable resolution of land issues,” he added.
The Appiate Support Fund was established in response to the devastating explosion, which claimed numerous lives, left scores injured, and razed the community to the ground. In a prove to the country’s solidarity, the Fund has garnered substantial support from philanthropic individuals, institutions, and corporate entities, all aimed at revitalizing Appiate and restoring the livelihoods of its resilient residents.
