The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Minority in Parliament are expected to converge at the offices of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) today, Monday, July 7, 2025, to demand the release of Abdul-Wahab Hanan, the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO).
The protest follows what the NPP describes as the unlawful detention of Hanan, despite claims that he has met all the bail conditions set by EOCO. The party has accused the anti-graft agency of violating his human rights by continuing to hold him in custody.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Newsroom on Sunday, NPP National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, condemned EOCO’s handling of the case and called for the matter to be resolved through due legal processes.
“If Hanan has done something wrong, put him before a court of law and let him have his day. We will go to EOCO together with some MPs, party sympathisers, and executives to demand answers. We want to know why he is still being kept in custody when all bail conditions have been met,” Mustapha stated.
He further expressed frustration with EOCO’s lack of communication, describing Hanan’s continued detention as punitive and unjustified.
“The evaluation report we received far exceeds the bail requirements. When everything was done, we contacted Raymond Acher and his deputies to finalise the process, but none of them responded. Hanan is being kept there as punishment for reasons we cannot understand,” he added.
Hanan was arrested on June 25 along with his wife in connection with alleged financial malfeasance at NAFCO. While his wife was granted bail set at GH¢30 million, Hanan remains in custody, reportedly yet to fully meet the conditions of his GH¢60 million bail.
The arrests, carried out in both Accra and Tamale, are part of a broader EOCO-led investigation into suspected economic crimes at the state-run buffer stock company. A third individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, was also detained in connection with the probe.
