Parliament’s Education Committee Calls for Pre-Project Budget Allocation to Tackle School Infrastructure Issues

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education has urged the government to prioritize budget allocations well in advance of initiating any educational projects.

The committee emphasized that securing funding ahead of time would effectively mitigate the ongoing infrastructure challenges faced by schools, which have become a significant concern for school administrators and adversely affect both teaching and learning experiences.

Peter Kwasi Nortsu-Kotoe, the committee’s Chairman, made this recommendation following a visit to several educational institutions, including Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua Senior High Technical School, New Juaben Senior High School, and All Nations University in the Eastern Region on Sunday, May 11. This tour was part of the committee’s efforts to evaluate the impact of the double-track system on various schools.

“Moving forward, it is essential that we allocate a budget for projects before they commence. This approach will help us avoid wasting public funds and resources,” he stated.

Nortsu-Kotoe expressed his appreciation for the school authorities’ management of their current resources and assured them that the committee would take their challenges into account when advising the executive branch.

Deputy Ranking Member of the committee, Mustapha Ussif, also commended the school management teams for their achievements and encouraged them to sustain their efforts. “We’re impressed with the government’s performance and the students,” he remarked.
