Ebi Bright, the newly appointed Mayor of Tema, has expressed her steadfast commitment to the entire municipality, recognizing the substantial responsibilities that come with her new position in light of recent political challenges.
In an interview with Eyewitness News on Citi FM shortly after her confirmation on Friday, May 9, Bright addressed the public’s concerns and the expectations tied to her appointment.
She highlighted that while her political endeavors have primarily centered on Tema Central, her dedication has always encompassed the wider Tema area. “Over the years, it’s been difficult for me to decouple Tema Central from Tema in general,” she remarked. “But the only reason why it was possible was because it was important to situate the area politically—so we could be heard instead of being marginalised.”
As a former parliamentary candidate, Bright clarified that her previous focus on Tema Central was a strategic choice, but her allegiance has always been to the entire city. “My commitment has always been to Tema as a whole, of which Tema Central, of course, is a part,” she stated. “So I am very honoured, but I feel the weight of the challenge.”
In light of the public scrutiny surrounding her nomination and confirmation, Bright acknowledged the increased expectations now placed on her leadership. “With all the brouhaha surrounding my nomination and confirmation, I think there will be a lot of expectation from myself and the comrades I will be working with,” she said, adding, “We are very elated.”
