Former Ghanaian international Sulley Ali Muntari has urged promising talent Ernest Nuamah to consider staying with Olympique Lyonnais for at least another season, despite increasing interest from prominent European clubs.
At just 20 years old, Nuamah made the move to Lyon from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland and has had a remarkable debut season in Ligue 1. Prior to an injury setback, the Ghanaian winger had featured in 33 matches across all competitions, netting six goals and providing two assists, establishing himself as a vital component of Lyon’s offensive strategy.
In an interview with AfricaFoot, Muntari lauded Nuamah’s abilities and mental fortitude, calling him one of Ghana’s most promising young players. “Ernest is a player of exceptional talent. He’s elusive with the ball, outstanding in one-on-one situations, and has the ability to create threats at any moment,” Muntari remarked. “He’s a true defensive powerhouse with an impressive mindset. Even with his injury, he’s drawing attention because everyone knows he’ll come back even stronger.”
The former AC Milan and Inter Milan midfielder emphasized the significance of patience and personal development, advising Nuamah against hastily pursuing a major transfer. “I think he still has room to grow at Olympique Lyonnais before setting his sights higher. He’s young, getting regular playing time, and is in an environment that fosters his growth. Spending another season at Lyon could elevate his game before he makes the leap to a more prestigious club,” Muntari explained.
Nuamah, who hails from Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy, is reportedly on the radar of several Premier League teams, including Fulham, Everton, and Crystal Palace. However, Muntari believes that remaining at Lyon would be the best path for the young player’s long-term development and career progression.
