Greater Accra Peace Council Endorses Drumming and Noise-Making Ban Ahead of Homowo Festival

The Greater Accra Regional Peace Council is calling on residents and faith-based groups to endorse this year’s prohibition on drumming and noise-making in anticipation of the Homowo Festival, emphasizing the need for peace, unity, and respect for cultural traditions during this significant period.

In a statement issued by Rt. Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey, the Regional Chairman of the Peace Council, the organization expressed its support for the annual directive from the Ga Traditional Council, which restricts loud music, drumming, and other noise-related activities.

The ban will be in effect from Monday, May 12, 2025, to Thursday, June 12, 2025, encompassing the entire Ga State. Activities that are prohibited include the use of drums, tambourines, and even hand clapping at public gatherings.

The Peace Council highlighted the importance of preserving tranquility throughout this month-long observance and encouraged residents to carry on with their daily lives while adhering to the regulations. It also urged religious organizations and other stakeholders to comply fully with the guidelines, warning that violations could result in fines or other penalties.

“We appeal to all stakeholders, especially religious organizations, to collaborate and adhere to the established guidelines to ensure peace in the region,” the statement emphasized.

The Council concluded by urging the public to pray for the Ga-Dangme people as they prepare for the upcoming Homowo Festival.
