Abeiku Santana Refutes Claims of Continued Radio Engagement Amidst Government Role

Abeiku Santana, the Deputy Chief Executive of the Ghana Tourism Authority, has dismissed as inaccurate assertions that he remains active in radio broadcasting following his appointment to a government position.

In a statement shared on social media, he asserted, “I wish to categorically state that the recent claim made by Mr. Mark Okraku Mantey, alleging that I am still actively engaged in radio broadcasting despite my government appointment, is entirely false and misleading.”

Santana’s remarks come in response to comments made by Okraku Mantey during an interview on Joy FM, where he expressed concern over Santana’s continued involvement with radio, specifically questioning why he would maintain his role at Despite Media while serving in a public office.

Okraku Mantey stated, “Why is Abeiku Santana going on air? Taking public office and he’s still working at UKFM,” referring to Okay FM by its former name. He further added, “And you guys, yes, yes. Look, you guys are quiet. Abeiku Santana works for the Ghana Tourism Authority in a public office, and he’s using office hours to work at UKFM.”

Mantey noted that while he had not personally reviewed the specific laws regarding public commissions, he emphasized that the Constitution and directives from the Minister are clear on the issue. He remarked, “You cannot use office hours to do any other job. Actually, what you should be doing is hosting a weekly show maybe something on tourism or culture. A weekly show pro bono, that kind of thing.”
