Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 Presidential Candidate, has urged party members to cultivate unity and respect in the wake of the party’s electoral loss. Speaking to party stakeholders in the Savannah Region on Saturday, May 3, 2025, during the NPP’s national Thank You Tour, Dr. Bawumia warned that infighting and public criticism among members were detrimental to the party’s performance in the recent elections.
“Throughout the 2024 elections, our own words directed at one another, as well as against the party and our administration, were weaponized against us. In fact, opponents ran advertisements in the media featuring statements from our own members during the campaign,” Dr. Bawumia remarked.
He characterized such behavior as “deadly weapons” that continue to undermine the NPP from within, emphasizing that the party’s strength hinges on internal solidarity and discipline.
“To remain resilient as a party, such actions must cease, as they do not contribute to the unity and fortitude of our organization,” he stressed.
Dr. Bawumia specifically called on party supporters and communicators nationwide to refrain from attacking fellow members on social media platforms. Instead, he urged them to promote tolerance, mutual respect, and constructive dialogue.
The Thank You Tour, which commenced last weekend, aims to express gratitude from the party and its flagbearer to party executives, grassroots members, and the broader Ghanaian public for their support during the election campaign, despite the party’s defeat.
The tour has already visited regions including Western, Western North, Bono, Ahafo, Ashanti, and Bono East, and has now shifted focus to the northern regions, starting with the Savannah Region.
According to the party’s schedule, the Upper West Region is set to be visited on Sunday, followed by the Upper East Region on Monday, the North East Region on Tuesday, and the Northern Region on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. The tour will subsequently proceed to the southern regions, with planned stops in Oti, Volta, Eastern, and Greater Accra in the days ahead.
Joining Dr. Bawumia on the tour are prominent NPP leaders, including National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim who has temporarily returned to Accra for urgent matters along with the Third National Vice Chairman and General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong.
