Ghana and Algeria Sign Visa Waiver Agreement to Enhance Bilateral Relations

Ghana and Algeria have signed a visa waiver agreement during a recent official visit by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to Algiers.

The agreement was reached following high-level discussions with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf. This landmark accord aims to facilitate easier travel between the two nations, further solidifying their diplomatic and economic relationship.

In addition to the visa waiver, both countries have committed to expanding cooperation in several key areas. Notably, they agreed to increase scholarship opportunities for Ghanaian students in fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and engineering, emphasizing a shared commitment to education and innovation.

The visit also yielded plans to establish a direct air link between Accra and Algiers, promoting greater connectivity and trade between the two capitals. Furthermore, both nations expressed intentions to launch a strategic partnership in the oil and gas sector, as well as enhance security cooperation and intelligence sharing to address regional challenges.

Another important outcome of the discussions was the commitment to revive the Joint Economic Cooperation framework, which aims to foster economic collaboration and mutual growth.

Minister Ablakwa’s visit underscored the longstanding relationship between Ghana and Algeria, rooted in a history of post-independence solidarity and mutual support. As both nations move forward with these agreements, they reaffirm their dedication to working together for the benefit of their citizens and the broader African community.
