Asantehene resumes bawku conflict mediation today

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to resume mediation efforts in the protracted Bawku conflict today, Monday, April 28.

This development follows a recent assurance from President John Mahama that the peace process, led by the Asantehene, will continue as part of national efforts to restore calm in the troubled region.

In a statement issued on April 15, the Asantehene confirmed that mediation sessions will be held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi from April 28 to May 1, aimed at fostering dialogue between the feuding factions.

Security analyst Colonel Festus Aboagye (Retired) has emphasised the need for broader support for the Asantehene’s efforts.

In an opinion piece published Monday, he advocated for the adoption of multi-track diplomacy, encouraging the involvement of diverse societal actors in the peace process.

“Support Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s mediation through multi-track diplomacy, incorporating diaspora leaders, youth influencers, and women’s peacebuilding networks,” he urged, highlighting the importance of a more inclusive approach for lasting peace.
