The 2025 Regional Maritime University (RMU) Educational and Career Fair concluded successfully on Wednesday, April 9.
The two-day event, held in collaboration with the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), was themed “Guiding Tomorrow’s Leaders to Career Choices in the Maritime Industry.”
It brought together key players in the maritime sector, distinguished current and former maritime administrators, RMU management and staff, as well as students from various Senior High Schools (SHSs) across Accra.
Participating schools included Accra Girls SHS, Accra High School, Achimota School, Labone SHS, Presbyterian Boys SHS (PRESEC), and Holy Trinity Cathedral SHS (HOTCASS). These students actively engaged with exhibitors, exploring opportunities and receiving valuable career guidance within the maritime industry.
Exhibitors at the fair included the RMU Marketing Unit, the Vocational Skills Training Center (VSTC), Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Globe Educational Center, Databank, GMA, Women in Maritime Africa (WIMA), and Bank of Africa.
Other exhibitors were RMU’s Marine Electrical/Electronics Department, the RMU Counselling and Guidance Center, World Recruit Services, and Plastic Punch.
Day two of the event featured insightful presentations, including one by Mr. Patrick Adjei, Assistant Lecturer at RMU’s Marine Electrical/Electronics Department, on “Solar Farm: The Future and Prospects.” Another notable presentation was delivered by Mr. Richmond Kennedy Quarcoo, Executive Director of Plastic Punch and an RMU alumnus.
He spoke on “Environmental Pollution Analysis: A Case Study of Ghana,” in a session ably moderated by Madam Sika Attipoe, Head of RMU’s Business Development Center (BDC).
The day also featured a compelling presentation on soft skills by Mrs. Evelyn Quartey, Deputy Registrar (Administration), aimed at guiding students on the attitudes and essential skills needed for a successful career.
In addition, Professor Nana Ofosu-Boateng, Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Studies, offered valuable insights on seafaring opportunities.
The event concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Eric Duncan, Chairman of the Planning Committee, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to the sponsors, participating schools, and especially the heads of SHSs for their support.
He assured stakeholders that efforts would be made to sustain and enhance the fair in the coming years and extended gratitude to RMU management for their unwavering support.
