Vetting Chaos Committee to Resume Hearings Amidst Controversy

The Ad-Hoc Committee investigating the chaotic events that unfolded during the January 30 vetting process is set to resume its hearings on Friday, February 7, 2025. This comes after an unexpected suspension on Wednesday, February 5, which sparked controversy and accusations of interference.

According to Chairman Emmanuel Bedzrah, the committee will proceed with public witness hearings, followed by a private in-camera session to discuss the involvement of Members of Parliament (MPs) in the destruction of state property. Bedzrah clarified that a press conference will be held to update the public on the committee’s next steps.

The investigation was suspended when the Clerk to Parliament withdrew staff, citing a lack of authorization from Speaker Alban Bagbin. However, Bedzrah alleged that the Minority caucus influenced the suspension, with Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin misleading the Clerk by incorrectly attributing the decision to the Speaker.

Bedzrah revealed that he had contacted the Majority Leader and met with other parliamentary leaders to clarify the matter. The committee’s resumption of hearings is expected to shed more light on the events surrounding the vetting chaos and the involvement of MPs in the destruction of state property.

The public witness hearings and in-camera session are anticipated to be crucial in uncovering the truth behind the chaotic events. As the committee resumes its hearings, all eyes will be on the proceedings, with many eager to see justice served and accountability ensured.
