Sam George, Okudzeto Ablakwa, others appear before Appointments Committee

The Communications Minister-designate, Sam Nartey George and Foreign Affairs Minister-designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa will appear before the Appointments Committee today, Thursday, January 30.

Also to appear before the committee would be the Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, Mr Kofi Adams as President John Mahama is looking forward to finalising his government in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Parliament has approved the nominations of seven new ministers, and set to be sworn-in by the President.

The approval was granted on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, following a series of vetting and debates over the past days.

Among the newly approved ministers are Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources; Tia Ibrahim, designated for the North East Region; Dr. Frank Amoakohene, appointed Ashanti Regional Minister-designate; and Akamugri Atanga Donatus, designated for the Upper East Region.

These four individuals were vetted on January 27 and saw their appointments endorsed following a discussion of the 7th report from the Appointments Committee.
Earlier, Parliament also confirmed three other ministerial appointments.

Emmanuel Kwadwo-Agyekum was approved as Minister of State Designate for Special Initiatives; Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo as Minister-designate for the Greater Accra Region; and Kenneth Gilbert Adjei as Minister-designate for Works, Housing, and Water Resources.

These nominations were vetted on January 28, and their approval followed the 8th report’s debate in the House.

The approval of these seven ministers brings the total number of confirmed ministers to 24, with 17 already sworn in by President Mahama.
