1,115 Gallons Of Smuggled Cocoa Beans Seized

In a significant bust, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has intercepted a massive haul of smuggled cocoa beans at the Ave-Havi border post near Akanu. The seized cargo consisted of 1,115 gallons of cocoa beans, which were being transported illegally to Togo.

Acting on intelligence, GIS officers successfully intercepted the truck, with registration number AS 2103-W, driven by Ibrahim Fatawu. Upon inspection, authorities discovered the large quantity of cocoa beans hidden in the vehicle.The GIS has handed over the smuggled cocoa beans to COCOBOD officials, while the truck has been impounded. The driver, Ibrahim Fatawu, is currently assisting in further investigations.This interception highlights Ghana’s ongoing efforts to combat cocoa smuggling, a persistent challenge affecting the nation’s cocoa sector and foreign exchange earnings.

The GIS has issued a strong warning to smugglers, cautioning that such illegal activities undermine Ghana’s economy and result in significant revenue losses for the government.
